Often spending many nights away from home with variable schedules, flight attendants work frequently consecutive shifts in the cabin of a passenger airplane. How do you become a Flight Attendant?

The minimum requirement to become a flight attendant is a high school diploma or the equivalent with the ability to enter and leave the country without trouble. Points that employers look for in flight attendants is hospitality and previous work experience in customer service (and fluency in a foreign language for international flights).

Airlines will provide an initial training that lasts 3 to 6 weeks as a part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification. FAA certification is required to work as a flight attendant and must be retrained once a year to maintain certification and trained in any new types of aircrafts they will work in. After receiving certification, the airline will place them on reserve status awaiting staff openings on flights. That can last at least one year in most cases.
